Lorain County Strong

Lorain County Strong is dedicated to supporting our local business community during this uncertain time. This website was put together using help from the organizations listed below. Feel free to reach out if you are offering a to-go, delivery or curbside service in Lorain County so we can add your name. Our goal was to bring attention to those businesses that are open and operating in some “new” style so customers can still support them. You will also find resources that you as a business may find helpful and necessary as doing business “as usual” is not an option right now. Thank you to everyone who helped us pull this site together, please feel free to provide the link to your social media friends and let them know that in Lorain County, we work Together!

Remote Working

For employees looking to work remotely, there are several things to keep in mind to keep your work and emails protected and encrypted and less likely to be hacked.
Here’s some advice:
  1. Use a remote access software like LogMeIn or GoToMyPC if you don’t already have a proper VPN.
  2. Don’t make dramatic changes to your workflow that you will regret later, like moving your account to the cloud.  This is a decision that should be researched.  Not a snap decision.
  3. See if your email provider offers a webmail feature.  Products like Office 365 offer that as part of your subscription.
  4. Be prepared to work at a slower pace.  With your entire team logging in remotely, you might have bandwidth issues.
  5. Talk to your team about the device they will be logging in from if it’s not company owned.  Does it have proper anti-virus?  Is it also being used by other family members?
  6. If you have VoIP phones you should have DIDs for every line.  You can do an easy forward of that line to a cell phone.  If not, ask your phone provider about forwarding your main line to a cell or alternative number.
This answers only a small number of questions that you may have. Below are some links that might help you as well. If in doubt, ask your current IT provider or contact the Lorain County Chamber or one of the Main Street organizations for a member who can help you make the decision or the transition.
